An Incredible Night With Indie Band, Forrest Day

Ever have the feeling you don't know a damn thing? As I watched the grassroots band Forrest Day bring down the house at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco last Saturday that's exactly what was going through my head. With each track, different yet recognizably the sound of Forrest Day, I felt myself being more memorized and feeling less worthy of being a music lover/aficionado of all genres since I hadn't known of them until that night.

Forrest Day plays sax and writes all his music. His vibe is strong on horns and guitar riffs with a mixture of blues, rock and roll, as well as some hip hop beats all at once. When I state those genres I say it with polite caution - this band has a style of it's own. Musicality has never been more apparent, Forrest Day resonates with his own sounds and reminds me of Linkin Park when they first busted out onto the scene with a hard new beat not yet heard around the world.

The above clip wasn't the night I saw them. I snarfed this from YouTube because, although I recorded a lot of video and I thought I was being cognizant of being still - you know like not dancing around as you're holding the camera - I still managed to move. It may not seem like you're moving much but once you're home in a quiet, lit environment you feel like an idiot with nothing to show for the fabulous evening just ruined by shaking that ass. I knew better. This has happened to me before. But, uh. Well...yeah.

Don't know what happened. All I can say is I FAILED. I failed to bring the goods. Even if it wasn't planned, I had my camera. I could have had a decent video showcasing one of their awesome performances of the night. Guess I can't help but move to the groove so I'm blaming the booty, which I'm just learning, has a mind of it's own.

Here, a snippet of the band playing to show I was there, shaking my ass...

Stay tuned for more on Forrest Day. In my possession, a Forrest Day shirt and two CD's. Below are pictures of the band. There's a couple with me and Forrest and one with Nick Wyner, keyboards, who went to high school with the guy who invited me to come to the show that night.

I have video of me introducing myself to Forrest but for some reason the file is no longer readable. I'll post it next time. Meanwhile, you can see what the band is up to online. Not only musically gifted, they're all personable, friendly, gracious and good people. Love them.
